Date/Time: Saturday, April 18, 2026 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM?
Location: South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society, 6876 South Highland Drive Salt Lake City, Utah 84121

Event Overview

Spend the day making music, learning new skills, and connecting with fellow ukulele players. Avery will lead two interactive workshops designed to help players grow in confidence and musicianship, followed by an afternoon concert.

Both workshops are designed for beginner through intermediate players, but Avery’s teaching style ensures there is something valuable for musicians of all skill levels.

Participants should bring their ukulele and are encouraged to bring a sack lunch so they can relax, eat together, and chat with other participants—and with Avery—between sessions.

This event is made possible in part by a grant from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums.

Workshops

How to Sing and Play at the Same Time

How many times have you mastered a strum pattern, lined it up with your chord progression, only for it to all fall apart when you start to sing?! This workshop will break down the layers of both playing and singing, and guide you through exercises for building them back up to successful singing and playing simultaneously.

Song Leading and Performing

We all love sharing music together, but for some folks, the pressure of playing music in public can be daunting. Learn and practice the basics of how to best prepare for leading a song at a jam and performing at an open mic, including strategies for memorizing lyrics and practicing stage presence.

Opportunity Drawing

Participants will be able to purchase drawing tickets for a chance to win a new ukulele, gift cards, and other prizes.

Concert

The day concludes with a concert by Avery Hill. Avery is known for thoughtful songwriting, intricate melodies, and a warm, engaging stage presence. Her music blends storytelling with insight and humor, creating performances that are both intimate and memorable.

Concert-only tickets are available for those who cannot attend the workshops.

What You’ll Walk Away With

By the end of the day, you’ll have:

  • Practical techniques for singing and playing at the same time
  • New ideas for leading songs confidently in jams
