Songs We L❤️ve: Friendship, Memories & Music – September Jam

Some songs take you back to a particular place. Some remind you of a particular person. Some make you smile before you’ve even played the first chord.
And some are just really, really fun to play on a ukulele.
That’s the idea behind our September Salt Lake Strummers Monthly Jam: Songs We Love — Friendship, Memories & Music.
We’ve put together a wonderfully eclectic collection of songs that we hope will bring back some good memories. And if there’s a song you’ve never heard before? Even better. Maybe September 19 will be the day you make a brand-new memory to go with it.
When/Where?
🗓️ Date/Time: Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 AM to noon
📍Location: 6876 S Highland Drive, Cottonwood Heights
🆓 Cost: It’s free. It’s open to the public. And there’s always room for one more.
As always, everyone is welcome. Bring your ukulele and play along, or come just to sing. You don’t need to be a member of the Salt Lake Strummers, and there’s no admission charge. Just show up ready to have a whole lotta fun!
Janice is leading the fun!
This month’s jam will be led by Janice L., and we’re in very capable — and very entertaining — hands.
Janice brings a terrific combination of musical talent, enthusiasm, humor, and enough energy to keep the rest of us on our toes. She knows how to make music fun, and we’re looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us.
Fair warning: smiling may be unavoidable.
The Set List
Here’s what we’re planning to play, in order:
As you can see, most of the charts are new (to The Strummers) or the charts have been revised, so you’ll want to ditch the old versions in favor of these.
- Try to Remember

- Don’t Buy the Liverworst

- I Believe in Music

- You’re Sixteen
- Blame it on the Ukulele

- Stand By Me

Open Mic – If you want to sign up to show off your stuff, just let us know on our Contact Us page.
- Strummer’s Birthday Song
- 9 to 5 — Tribute to Dolly 🥲
- I’ve Just Seen a Face

- Joy to the World

- Yesterday & Yesterday Tab Version

Open Mic – If you want to sign up to show off your stuff, just let us know on our Contact Us page.
- Dancing Queen

- With a Little Help From My Friends

- Count on Me

There’s a little bit of everything in there: nostalgia, silliness, friendship, classic pop, sing-along favorites, and at least one song that proves liverwurst and ukuleles can coexist peacefully on the same set list.

🎶Come for the music. Stay for the people.
(or the cookies!)
Of course, the songs are only part of what makes these jams special.
The real point is to have fun, make some hopefully good music, and build friendships while we’re doing it. There’s something pretty wonderful about a roomful of people playing and singing together — whether we nail every chord or occasionally create an exciting new chord that no music theorist has previously documented.
And when the playing is finished, please stick around for refreshments.
That time after the jam has become an important part of the morning: a chance to visit, meet someone new, catch up with friends, talk ukuleles, and strengthen the friendships that make this group what it is.
So bring your uke.
Or just bring your voice.
Or simply bring yourself.
Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 AM to noon
