Workshop: Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World

If you play the ukulele, chances are you’ve been asked, “Do you know Somewhere Over the Rainbow?” 🎶🌈

That request almost always points back to the iconic rendition by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole, affectionately known as Bruddah IZ. His beautiful version blends Somewhere Over the Rainbow with What a Wonderful World, transforming the familiar tune into something gentle, expressive, and uniquely his own.

Unlike the original Wizard of Oz version, IZ sings the melody in a distinctive style and approach—making this arrangement especially well‑suited to the ukulele. As a ukulele club, we feel this is a must‑know song to have in your back pocket for requests, or simply to enjoy playing for yourself.
